Abstract
Wave energy is a renewable energy source with significant potential to diversify the global energy matrix. Currently, there are multiple concepts for harnessing wave energy, which exhibit a wide variety of designs, geometries, and operating principles hindering the convergence toward standardized solutions. This work presents a review of the recent development of five-point absorber devices, selected based on their Technology Readiness Level, available documentation, and relevance in the field. The devices analyzed are the CorPower® C4, Archimedes Wave Swing, Triton C, PowerBuoy PB3, and Wavestar. The selection methodology is described, along with a technical analysis of each device, including its configuration, type of power take-off (PTO) system, and current status. This review aims to provide a comparative overview to support a better understanding of the current landscape in the development of point absorber wave energy converters.
