Abstract
The paper analyses the structural transformations that have taken place in the Mexican jargon called albur due to the current participation of the female gender in this phenomenon. The pragmatic analysis of original speech data was used to identify and
interpret the aforementioned changes, coming to the conclusion that the presence of the women in the albur has recently generated innovative strategies and corresponding linguistic resources that allow them to leave behind their traditional position of (passive) objects and place themselves as the (active) subjects of the albur.
