Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze if the application of structures made with permeable concrete helps to decrease the expansion potential of a soil. To do this, a soil sample was extracted in Querétaro, Querétaro, and subjected to geotechnical tests to characterize it. Subsequently, 3 different dosages of permeable concrete of low compressive strength were studied to determine the optimal mixture for the elaboration of the concrete structures. The dimensions of the structures investigated were established in 8 cm of diameter and heights of 5 and 7 mm approximately. Expansion tests were carried out on the natural soil and subsequently on the soil with the incorporation of permeable concrete structures. The results showed that the soil under study corresponded to an inorganic silt of high compressibility or high plasticity (MH) and the most favorable permeable concrete structure was the 7 mm in height, by lowering 85% of the expansion.
