Abstract

This essay addresses the crisis of political representation by examining the historical evolution of the concept from classical civilizations to contemporary democracies. Although representation aims for the common good, it has faced challenges in recent decades that have weakened its original purpose. It is suggested that citizen participation, through communicative processes and various media, can strengthen political representation. The study explores how these interactions, both in-person and digital, can enhance democracy and considers the case of Mexico, highlighting how social participation can mitigate the disconnect between representatives and citizens.
