Abstract

This article examines, from the theory of the social construction of reality and the theory of gender performativity, and the proposal of nomadic subjects, how masculinity is constructed in Cuerpo náufrago (2005), a novel by Mexican writer Ana Clavel. Through the pages, the way in which the protagonist assumes gender identities is analyzed based on the perception that she has of her body in the different stages of socialization. In addition, the dialectic that arises between her subjective reality and the objective reality in which she develops is described to feed and maintain her ideas regarding the duty of men to society.
