Abstract

This article examines the elements that make up the representation of the fat body in three literary works written by Mexican authors: the novels Vapor (2004), by Julieta García González and Pandora (2015), by Liliana Blum, and the short story “Eucaristía” (2008) by Marina Herrera. Its three protagonists –Gracia, Pandora and Otilia, respectively– share the peculiarity of being fat women and being similarly characterized. After the review of various items in the light of the proposals of Latin American ‘ fat activism’ and some anthropological studies, it is concluded that these texts follow a kind of narrative recipe that turns the characters into archetypes and even reiterates ‘ fatphobic’ discourses.
