Abstract
The objective of this paper is to analyze the representation of otherness in the work of Lina Beck-Bernard through a study of the dialogue her writing establishes with the Western tradition. The methodology employed combines discourse analysis with a comparison of her texts to other historical and literary sources, to identify discursive practices that articulate the relationship between the self and the other. This is carried out through the proposed category of altereme. The results show that Beck-Bernard not only describes what she constructs as otherness but also positions herself within a dynamic of mutual interpellation, where speaking and being spoken by the other create a space of political tensions that exceed her own historical framework.
