The celebration of holiness in the kingdon of Guatemala: the mercedarian poetic fair in honor of San Pedro Pascual de Valencia (1673). (2025). Diseminaciones, 4(7), 161-184. https://revistas.uaq.mx/index.php/diseminaciones/article/view/281
Abstract
This article aims to offer a panoramic review of the phenomenon of holiness in the Hispanic world and, in particular, in the kingdom of Guatemala. Such an approach will be based on one of the artistic practices that accompanied the canonization celebrations of the Baroque period: the poetic jousts in honor of the new saints. These just ones constitute a phenomenon of particular interest for their metalinguistic nature and for their combination of burlesque and solemn rhetorical strategies.
