Abstract

In recent years there has been an increase in the use of green roofs to make a place for recreation. Most of the houses that use them are of the upper middle class, because of the high cost of his implementation and their maintenance, building a roof garden with an outdoor furniture and other supplies for the rest and recreation. This kind of green roof pass over the meaning to place vegetation adapted to the weather on the roof of a building. This is the idea to suggest in this paper, to encourage to implement the growing plants on rooftops and as a result it will be replacing the vegetated footprint that was destroyed when the building was constructed. To do this is necessary to take a part of the soil at the beginning of the construction. This soil with seed and also some plants, is relocated at the end, putting this material properly treated on the rooftop to create “techos baldíos”, as in England says, “Brown Roofs” to the vegetation on the rooftop that does not require constant maintenance and its cost is lower than a green roof needs. This to contribute to the thermal comfort in the houses and other benefit for the environment like mitigate the effect of urban heat island.
