Abstract

In recent years, the City of Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, has been affected by climate changes, extreme temperatures, droughts, cold fronts and polar waves among others, which has led residents to consume more resources to cool and heat homes, adding to the problems associated with the global greenhouse effect, caused mainly by the burning of firewood, coupled with poor design and construction of homes. Currently in Mexico there are standards and strategies for designing sustainable homes that seek thermal comfort. Therefore, there is still a lot of work to be done, apply the regulations and transmit the knowledge to the self-builders of the City of Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua. This research shows the results of the design of a house of social interest located in the Benito Juárez neighborhood, proposing passive designs to reduce the active systems that are regularly used in dwellings, analyzing the climatic conditions of the City of Cuauhtémoc, calculating the demands energy in winter, as in summer, and analyzing the annual global consumption; all this using simulation in DEEVi based on the norm NOM-020-ENER-2011. The result of this research shows that energy consumption can be reduced considerably by up to 50% through passive systems; with the improvement of the envelopes and using natural materials, with this leading to thermal comfort.
