Abstract
The purpose of this essay is to recognize lynching as an expression of a collective violence that takes place within the context of fear, insecurity, and hostile conditions. Under these circumstances, a case study (where two surveyors were lynched in Ajalpan, Puebla) is examined to assert that it is indispensable to take into consideration three angles in this social problem: unrest within populations, vigilantism and punishment. The aforementioned elements are crucial to comprehend the complexity revolving around the case, as well as, raise awareness on previous lynching across Mexico.
