Abstract
Biofuels are one of the key points for a sustainable economic recovery. In particular, biodiesel is one of the most studied due to its simple production process, as well as easy storage and transportation. In this sense, the production of biodiesel worldwide
has been classified into four groups, depending on the raw material used; thus, in this classification are included vegetable oils (edible and inedible), animal fats, residual cooking oils, as well as some obtained from different microorganisms. However, approximately
95% of biodiesel production worldwide is generated from edible oils, which impacts the profitability of this biofuel. Recent studies show that it is possible to obtain low-cost oils from organic waste, through biological treatment. Therefore, in this work the potential of biodiesel production in the state of Querétaro is estimated considering organic waste as raw material.
