Abstract

The Neurobiology Institute has its origins in the thirties when a team of Mexican scientists sought to create a suitable space for their work. According to our documentary analysis, the origins and development of this Institute concurred with the emigration of a few Spain neurobiologist and the interest of the Cardenas president to promote the UNAM. Thus, in 1940 was created the Medical and Biological Studies Laboratory, organized into research departments, and a journal for publication. In 1954 changed to Institute for Medical and Biological Studies. This institution switched to Biomedical Research Institute in 1967. A group of researchers from the Physiology Department proposed the creation of the Neurobiology Center in Queretaro in 1993. After productive research activities, post graduate programs, and new scientists, the Neurobiology Center became, in 2002, the Neurobiology Institute. This work reviews the academic efforts and accomplishments within a creative intellectual atmosphere.
