In the first part of this paper, the latest economic indicators of red tomato as a starting point for analyzing the behavior of cherry tomato in the international and national markets is mentioned. Additionally, the commercial varieties that move in the national and export markets are considered. Furthermore, a description is made of the morphological generalities of the black cherry tomato and the main characteristics of its production process, followed by a compilation of the bioactive compounds in this variety, its functions in the plant, as well as previous studies of these compounds in different cherry varieties. This section closes with the benefits studied in human health. Finally, we conclude that this product is positioned in the national market as a gourmet product, so it has less demand and, therefore, its production is lower than the other varieties of tomato. However, it is an excellent consumption option to improve health, with a constantly evolving production and modification within the gourmet market, which makes it a highly profitable product. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License.
