Abstract

This article attempts to conceptualize the place of the so called factitious collections within the bibliographic´s field. The characteristics of these collections, the heterogeneity of their composition and their particular historical background turn them into
complex objects, which demand to be analyzed from a specific theoretical framework in order to best define their nature and in order to consider the way they ought to be treated in bibliographical and archival contexts. It is also key to determine their importance or value for documentation in order to understand how to decode them. The works that have defined the factitious collections or that have point out some relevant aspects for their treatment, are part of this study that uses the Factitious Collection of Emilio Roig de Leuchsenring, that is preserved in the Historic Center of Havana, asan example that illustrates some of the elements that were presented.
