Abstract

The unbalance of components in rotating machines and wear caused by friction are some of the most recurrent failures that significantly increase vibration levels, affecting the reliability of the devices, the useful life of its elements and the quality of the product. There are many works related to the different techniques for the diagnosis and correction of unbalance. In the present study, the unbalance of a disk mounted on a shaft supported between two bearings at both ends was analyzed. One friction force was applied on the outer diameter of the disk. The analysis method used was the recurrence plot, which can analyze non-linear dynamic systems in non-stationary regimes. The recurrence plot was constructed from the displacement spectra obtained by the double integration of the acceleration through the empirical mode decomposition, which also can analyze non-linear systems. The objective of the present work was the qualitative characterization of an unbalance failure in the presence of friction using the recurrence plot method to determine if it is feasible to identify the non-linear phenomenon of friction.
