Abstract
This review aims to point out that even though intensive agricultural systems that use fewer endemic species have made it possible to satisfy the demand for food worldwide, they have a negative impact on the environment, as well as on biodiversityIn the same way, the impacts include socioeconomic aspects, since they affect small farmers and there is a loss of different culinary and cultural customs. Consequently, there have been changes in the diet and food consumption habits in different regions, which increases chronic-degenerative diseases in the population. Due to this, solutions are currently sought from agroecology and agrobiodiversity to mitigate this situation. In this context, it is concluded that the implementation of polyculture systems with endemic species is a solution to these problems since it integrates the pillars of sustainable agriculture.
