The evaluation process at Albores is carried out through the OJS platform, which facilitates the editorial management of the proposals received. Through this system, proposals (articles, essays, photographic works, and reviews) are accepted all year-round and undergo an evaluation process (according to their category) to determine their viability for publication.

First Stage: Internal Editorial Team

In the initial stage of the process, the team will send an opening letter to the authors via email. This letter must be signed as a guarantee that the text is original and unpublished, and that the authors accept its evaluation according to the procedures of Albores.

All manuscripts are evaluated by the editorial team to verify whether they fit within the journal's areas of interest and whether they meet the established requirements and editorial guidelines. To ensure the originality of the proposals, the editorial team employs Turnitin as a plagiarism and similarity detection tool. This allows the confirmation that the contributions are unpublished and that references to other texts are cited correctly. If the percentage of detected similarities exceeds 20%, the manuscript will be rejected or returned to the authors for necessary adjustments, as appropriate.

After this initial evaluation, the editorial team has the authority to decide whether a proposal will be rejected or returned to the authors to apply the observations and necessary adjustments before submitting the manuscript to the next evaluation stage.

Second Stage: Blind Peer Review

For book reviews and photographic works, the evaluation process is internal, carried out by the personnel from the journal itself. In contrast, research articles and essays are subjected to a blind peer review system, in which external evaluators are invited to collaborate with the editing process. These evaluators are asked to complete their evaluation within a maximum of four weeks. The verdict of each evaluator may be one of the following: not publishable, publishable in its current state, publishable subject to meeting the observations of the report, or publishable with modifications at the author's discretion.

For a text to be considered for publication, it is necessary to obtain two positive reports. If one of the two reports is negative, a third evaluation will be requested from a new evaluator to decide the outcome. If both reports are negative, there is no possibility for the manuscript to continue the publication process.

The acceptance of an evaluated and approved contribution does not guarantee its immediate publication; Albores reserves the right to make the final decision regarding publication, the time allowed for an author to correct their manuscript after the report, and the semester in which the work will be included.

Albores is committed to ensuring the anonymity of both parties (author/evaluator) throughout the process. Furthermore,  the author will be informed about the status of their manuscript and the editor will share, as soon as possible, the report and suggestions from the evaluators.

Third Stage: Production

Once the evaluation process is completed, the acceptance of the manuscript will be officially communicated, after which it will proceed to production.This process includes the review and style editing by the journal’s team, as well as the design of the layout.

Fourth Stage: Signing the Agreement and Publication

Before publication, authors will be provided with a copyright assignment letter, which will specify the rights they retain and those they assign to the publication. This document must be signed to formalize the agreement. You can consult information about copyright at About the Journal.

Since it is a biannual publication, the manuscript may be published in either January or July, depending on the publication cycle. Authors will be informed about the publication date for their text.
