Abstract
Political violence against women based on gender (VPG) hinders women´s political
rights and undermines the country´s democracy. This article addresses the VPG
suffered by indigenous women in Guerrrero, México, and the actions implement
ed by the State to combat it. According to Soto, this aims to decrease women´s
right to vote and hold public office, raising the research question: What actions
did the State implement to address gender violence against women in the 2021
elections in Iliatenco, Guerrero? A qualitative methodology was used, including a
documentary review of relevant election data. In this sense, three topics will be
analyzed different types of gender-based violence, the legal framework, and
mechanisms for preventing political violence against women.
