Abstract

The objective of this article is to understand how the bipartisan confrontation was represented in the Colombian press, by the political cartoons. Taking into account the political affiliation of the newspapers addressed (El Siglo-conservative and El Tiempo-Liberal). Also, understand the allusion to death within these cartoon representations. At a time when the resurgence of ideological confrontation reached its peak, known as "The Classical Violence" period (1946-1953). This, by analyzing eight caricatures. Those portraits their role within that time. In addition to that, interpret the symbolic references to death and the reason behind the use of this figure in such representations, from the perspective of Art History. According to our analysis, the press and caricature played a leading role in the bipartisan confrontation. Where the images and iconic resources used in them exacerbated the political confrontations, triggering warlike actions by reds and blues in urban and rural spaces.
