Abstract
This work seeks to describe the configuration of the rentier economy of Saudi Arabia and its consequent development from the eighties with oil exploitation. The energy power of Saudi Arabia as the world's leading oil producer and the search for alternatives to diversify its economy through structural reforms that integrate it into the world economic scene are pointed out. At the same time the tensions and conflicts of recent years in the Persian Gulf region and the difficult rivalries of intra-religious origin that it faces mainly with Iran are reviewed. The agitated scenario and the contradictions in the area are of great global importance due to the rela-tionship with the price of crude oil.
